President Donald Trump wasn’t the only one suited up for Tuesday morning’s trip to the United Nations. First Lady Melania Trump exited Trump Tower with him, wearing a white pantsuit and copper-colored blouse.
The suit was from Dolce & Gabbana, which also designed the suit that she wore for her 2025 White House portrait, and the top was from Max Mara. (Both Italian companies have stores that are short walks from Trump Tower.) Although the first lady tends to be more dressed up than relaxed for key photo ops, she sported pants during last week’s state visit to the U.K. For a walkabout with the Princess of Wales at Frogmore House, the first lady chose a Ralph Lauren chestnut-colored suede safari jacket, Loro Piana pants, and chestnut-colored Roger Vivier flats.
Trump’s business casual attire on Tuesday morning was considerably more subdued from her first public address at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in 2018. For that occasion, her choice was a Millennial Pink Delpozo dress with statement sleeves and hot pink Manolo Blahnik stilettos. That same year the former model turned up at President Trump’s second State of the Union address wearing an ivory-colored Dior pantsuit with a coordinating blouse.

In the early 20th century, advocates for women’s voting rights often opted for white dresses with sashes in gold and purple as signs of their solidarity.
The former U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi donned white pantsuits for key occasions. Coincidentally, Pelosi attracted a lot of online attention for another fashion choice — a Max Mara coat on burnt orange.
But Melania Trump’s stylist Hervé Pierre is said to select items based on style and suitability for the occasion, as opposed to underline meanings. He was unavailable to comment Tuesday.
