Therapy Systems is getting into color this fall, as founder Linda Roberts launches a full-color cosmetics line, Therapy Systems Color.
“I didn’t start with 97 products. I answered a specific need in the marketplace and took something that already existed in the market and refined it,” said Roberts, who founded the Nashville-based company known for its cosmeceutical skin care products nine years ago.
Launching exclusively at Henri Bendel this week, the color collection contains 52 stockkeeping units, including mineral foundation, concealer, blush, eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and lip plumper. Both the foundation and blush collections contain mineral ingredients such as mica, boron nitride and silk.
The company will introduce three collections a year, one for each season: fall-winter, holiday and spring-summer.
“I always said I would never get into the color business. But since I have, I wanted to introduce color that is modern and contemporary and can be used for any skin types and demographics,” said Roberts. “I wanted to create a line that has no age tied to it.”
Roberts wanted to design a contemporary collection that reflected the colors and textures of the runway shows. For a fashion tie-in, Roberts partnered with bag designer Stephanie Johnson to create custom-fitted pouches to hold each silver makeup compact. Through this partnership, Johnson also has designed an East West Clutch, $48, which is available in three designs: metallic, black suede and zebra. This multipurpose clutch contains compartments designed specifically for Therapy Systems products and can be used as a cosmetics bag in addition to an evening or daytime purse.
“I wanted the line to be very accessory-oriented, giving consumers the opportunity to make it something she can carry later on in the evening,” added Roberts.
According to industry sources, the color line is estimated to bring in $1.5 million in first-year retail sales, increasing the franchise’s total retail sales to $4 million by the end of next year.
The color line also will be sold through Private Edition, The Cosmetic Market and Therapy Systems stores, totaling 10 stores including Henri Bendel. The company is currently in the process of opening a 5,500-square-foot Cosmetic Market flagship, located in Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood. The line also will be available online at

Though the line is currently sold in one store at Beauty Square in Hong Kong, Roberts has plans for further international expansion over the next few years. In the U.S., Roberts plans to expand into 30 boutiques by the end of second quarter in addition to opening 30 Therapy System stores over the next three years.
