For better or worse, these days everyone seems to want a piece of the Kardashians. And so, when the trio of raven-haired Los Angeles sisters, of “Keeping up with the Kardashians” fame, decided to show their new Bebe-Kardashian line, out came the revelers. Jenni “J-Woww” Farley of “Jersey Shore,” (decked out in a Seaside Heights, N.J.-appropriate clinging Christian Audigier dress), Jay Manuel, several Real Housewives of New York City and scores of nonfashion types crushed into the Style360 on West 37th Street, eager for a glimpse of the E! stars.
But alas, only one of the now-designer sisters was present. Kim represented for Khloe Kardashian Odom and Kourtney Kardashian, who recently gave birth to her first child, Mason. Of the sisters’ first foray into design, Kardashian — whose projects include a namesake fragrance, a Carl’s Jr. commercial and producing a new reality show for E! called “The Spindustry” — said it’s all in the genes. “To be working with my sisters on this has been an incredible experience,” she said, wearing a gray jersey hooded minidress, topped by a faux leather corset, designed by her sister Khloe. “It embodies our personalities.” Indeed, what emerged on the runway was a collection of street trends: leather shorts, T-shirt dresses and jersey rompers worn with boyfriend blazers. Much of it looked inspired by Alexander Wang’s signature model-off-duty motif, circa 2008, particularly the shoes — not that anyone was expecting revolutionary design. Instead, the sisters savvily homed in their look and made it affordable. Kim said all styles retail for under $100 and have been selling out since their arrival at Bebe stores earlier this month. By the looks of the runway samples, the collection is well-done for the price.
Kardashian, however, isn’t immune to more negative aspects of certain relatives. Of the Monday night season finale, which featured some family members becoming inebriated and violent during her Las Vegas birthday weekend, she said “it’s kind of embarrassing. You can’t really prepare for editing an episode like that.”
