New York — Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And if the beholder is real estate mogul and Miss Universe pageant owner Donald Trump, beauty lies in the 50 contestants of the 2006 Miss Universe pageant.
“The only thing that I love more than real estate is beautiful women,” Trump said to a packed room on the first floor of his namesake Fifth Avenue tower Tuesday night. “Beautiful women have gotten me into a lot of trouble over the years.”
Trump, along with his bevy of beautiful women, were on hand to celebrate the launch of the first Miss Universe pageant-sponsored book, “Universal Beauty: The Miss Universe Guide to Beauty” by Cara Birnbaum. The how-to book, available at Barnes & Noble bookstores for $29.99, discusses beauty secrets such as faking a tan, fighting acne breakouts and aging gracefully.
Also in attendance were a horde of men in business suits and the Miss USA hosts Drew Lachey and Carson Kressley. Mingling among the eclectic crowd was handbag designer Lui Antinous. Wearing a white boa feather in his hair, black pumps and toting one of his handbags, Antinous said he decided to attend to “see how beautiful the universe is.”
So, how exactly do these beautiful women of the universe maintain their looks?
Amelia Vega, Miss Universe 2003 and the cover model for the book, said she washes her face with egg whites to moisturize her skin.
“I also take a cold towel and place it on my face every morning. It closes up the pores of your skin and makes it feel cool and refreshed,” she said.
Lauren Lanning, Miss Texas, said she gargles with peroxide daily to keep her teeth gleaming white.
“Another tip I learned is that if you run out of blush, you can take a little bit of lipstick and rub it on your cheeks and that will work fine as well,” she said.
Anna Marie Piscitello, Miss Wisconsin, noted that she has learned about everything from hair extensions to various methods of shaving on the pageant circuit.
“The best tip that I know is that you can use hemorrhoid cream to get rid of the bags underneath your eyes. It can also help tighten the skin on your stomach and thighs, too,” she said.

Radasha Ho’ohuli, Miss Hawaii, said one of her best beauty tips is to drink lots of water to maintain clear skin.
But the consensus among most of the Miss Universe contestants is that true beauty does not come from any product; it only comes from within.
“I always tell the girls to just be yourself and have fun. This pageant is about a total composition. Eye contact and a smile will take you a long way in this business,” said Sylvia Hitchcock, Miss Universe 1967.
