NEW YORK — Harry Winston seems to be growing almost as big as its famed megawatt diamonds.
The company, 40 percent of which was acquired by Aber Diamond Corp. in 2004, plans to start the New Year with a larger Beverly Hills flagship to bow on Jan. 11. The three-story, 6,000-square-foot store is at 310 North Rodeo Drive, across the street from the firm’s former 950-square-foot space, where it has been since 1986.
Winston will open a Tokyo boutique in Omotesando this February, and one in London in June. And just this month, the firm launched two stores — in Bal Harbour, Fla., and Ala Moana, Hawaii.
Winston Architect Thierry Despont is designing all the new spaces. There will be private viewing rooms, exhibition space and a terrace for a discrete luxury shopping experience.
“Los Angeles is especially significant to the Winston heritage,” Thomas J. O’Neill, chief executive officer of Winston and president of Aber, said in a statement. “Harry Winston’s father opened a jewelry store in downtown Los Angeles in 1911. Following in his father’s footsteps, Harry Winston opened his first salon at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he began dressing Hollywood stars for the Academy Awards. Los Angeles has been an integral part of our success and we look forward to additional space to accommodate our growing clientele.”
