MILAN — The Santa Maria della Scala museum in Siena is getting ready to house the “Palio Collection,” a special exhibit of clothes designed by Emilio Pucci in 1957 to celebrate the city’s renowned horse race.
The retrospective runs from June 28 to Sept. 9 and was curated by Alessandra Arezzi Boza and Margherita Anselmi Zondadari.Pucci presented his clothes at Palazzo Pitti’s Sala Bianca, with 17 models dressed in silk blouses and pants of different colors and patterns that represented the heraldic colors of the Contrade, Siena’s medieval city quarters.
The prints re-created graphic elements from the 15th century.
On display will be the drawings, sketches, color charts, prints and clothes of a collection that showed a consistency of design, from the choice of fabric and prints to its application in a range of colors and garments. The collection also included eveningwear, cocktail dresses and daywear, along with Pucci’s staple blouses, bathing suits and terry cloth items.
