LOS ANGELES — Lucky Brand Dungarees took in about $650,000 at its 8th Annual Black Tie & Jeans Gala fund-raiser with a little help from friends in high places.
Among the 740 guests at the event on Nov. 12 were Bobby Margolis, chairman and chief executive officer of Cherokee Inc.; Susan Crank, ceo and president of Lunada Bay; Moshe Tsabag, chairman and ceo of Hot Kiss; Steve Maiman, owner of Great Escape, and Corky Newman, ceo of Red Tiger Clothing.
There were celebrities such as Emily Procter from CBS’ “CSI: Miami” and Laura San Giacomo from NBC’s “Just Shoot Me.” The night included a performance by singer Chris Isaak and a surprise turn by the Byrds’ Roger McGuinn.
Gene Montesano, Lucky co-founder with Barry Perlman, was upbeat about the company. “We’ve gotten some new people, created some new positions and have the best team ever to execute on the future,” he said.

Montesano also thanked parent company Liz Claiborne, which has helped finance Lucky’s growth, notably with its retail stores. The count stands at 89 with plans to open a San Francisco flagship in January.
Paul Charron, chairman and ceo of Liz Claiborne, attended with his 22-year-old daughter, Ashley. He visited local retailers such as Fred Segal while in town.
Charron declined to comment about the Jones Apparel Group’s acquisition of Barneys New York, except to say, “It’s not something that fits into Liz’ strategy.”
The evening’s proceeds will benefit Lucky Brand Foundation’s almost 30 charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, P.S. Arts, Ride On, Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, Shane’s Inspiration and the Fulfillment Fund.
