NEW YORK — Garren has found a salon to call his own.
The uber hairstylist, who formerly held court at Henri Bendel, has signed a deal with the Sherry-Netherland Hotel, located at 781 Fifth Avenue at 59th Street here, to open a 2,000-square-foot salon just off the reception area. He is pleased that the new space will be kept intimate, as was his salon at Bendel’s, seeing that he was seconds away from signing on a 7,000-square-foot space on Madison Avenue. A larger space, he said, would have kept him from being as hands-on as he likes to be.
“It becomes a factory,” Garren said. “Not only would I never know any of my staff but I would feel removed from my clients.”
The new area, which is scheduled to open late spring, will have eight stylists and four colorists. The space is being designed in conjunction with architect Christopher Barriscale and will utilize limestone, waxed plaster, wood veneers and burnished bronze, complemented by a neutral color palette. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors, etched glass light fixtures and a fabric ceiling looks to create a rich, luxurious atmosphere nestled within the luxury hotel’s newly renovated atrium. Prior salons at the hotel have been located on the second and third floors, Garren said.
The new Garren New York salon will of course make room to feature his eponymous hair care collection. He is also hard at work consulting for L’Oréal Paris, where he is expected to sign on as a spokesman for a new hair care line by the French beauty giant.
