NEW YORK — Catch a Fire, the contemporary clothing line launched by designer Cedella Marley, daughter of the late reggae star Bob Marley, is getting into the jeans business this fall.
The brand plans to launch a limited denim collection, including a low-rise boot cut called Skip, and Soul, a straight leg with an 8-inch rise. The styles are named after two of the designer’s three children.
“If you do something for one child, you have to do it for the other,” Marley said.
The Saayen style, named for the latest addition to Marley’s family, will launch for resort.
The jeans all feature Catch a Fire’s signature red, gold and green triple-needle stitching and the company’s logo, an image of Bob Marley, on the antique copper hardware. The company’s name is burned into the inside waistband. A card featuring the lyrics to some of Marley’s songs is included in the pocket of the jeans.
The focus of the collection centers around eight washes.
“These days, when consumers buy jeans, they look at the wash,” said Karen Greenberg, managing director at Catch a Fire. “We put a twist on the basics and we think consumers respond to that.”
The jeans are made in China of Japanese denim. Wholesale prices in the women’s collection range from $75 for a basic five-pocket style to $250 for an embroidered novelty number.
