For Ralph Rucci, every stitch and seam is an artistic pursuit of perfection. The acclaimed American designer stands as only one of two Americans — alongside Mainbocher — invited by the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la haute couture to present collections in Paris. In 2025, Rucci will make history once again as the first American couturier to receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Rucci’s journey into fashion began unexpectedly while studying philosophy and literature at Temple University. In a 2011 interview with WWD celebrating his 30th year in the industry, he shared how a research project on aesthetics introduced him to one of his greatest inspirations, Cristóbal Balenciaga. He also discovered the work of Madame Grès, Charles James and Halston, where he landed his first job.
