Chanel Joaillerie’s breathtaking collection, Contrastes, played on opposites, working black with white — a house code — as well as rough with smooth, or round and geometric forms. The pieces were presented in a black-and-white set in the brand’s flagship, with lights timed to brighten and dim in sync with an animated film of a lunar eclipse. A spectrum of black and gray spinels cast a shadow across frosty white diamonds, moonstones and pearls on the Perle de Rosée necklace, with the combination of stones creating a raised surface, while creamy lines of pearls rained from chunky, cloud-shaped white gold and diamond pendants on a pair of Nuage de Glace (Ice Cloud) earrings. Dainty engravings could be perceived through organic-looking faceted rock crystal plaques on the impressive Pluie de Cristal necklace, with twinkling lines of diamonds streaming from its main pendant. The Art Deco-style Soleil d’Automne (Autumn Sun) necklace added warmth to the landscape, its yellow cushion-cut diamonds and gold cultured pearls offering a rare touch of color that interplayed with bright white gems.
