MIAMI — La Perla is reopening at Bal Harbour Shops over Labor Day weekend.
The La Perla boutique was initially located in Bal Harbour for five years and relocated to Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables, Fla., in 2002. Based on double-digit sales growth at its three Manhattan stores, as well as a healthy duo in Southern California, Suzy Biszantz, chief executive officer of La Perla North America, said Miami shows long-term promise for multiple doors, possibly even supporting a third.
Biszantz said La Perla has been waiting since 2008 for the right reentry in the metro Miami area.
“It’s more centrally located to reach our South Florida customers to the north and is such a different market from Merrick, which has more of a local neighborhood vibe versus international tourists that are visiting year-round,” explained Biszantz.
Half the size of Merrick’s shop, the 1,000-square-foot space on Bal Harbour’s second level sits near Neiman Marcus, Jimmy Choo and Intermix.

Because all collections including Villa Toscana sleepwear and diffusion line Studio are sold at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, 70 percent of the new store’s merchandise will focus on the La Perla brand and limited editions like Jean-Paul Gaultier’s capsule collections for lingerie and swim.”
Swimwear by Jean-Paul Gaultier for La Perla retails from $500 to $700, while lingerie sets are $800 to $1,200. Biszantz said the designer’s pricier looks loaded with artistry are only sold at Bergdorf’s and several Neiman Marcus stores.
“Each of our boutiques, no matter how conservative the city, carries special items like these, but Miami may tilt slightly toward more swim, pareos and caftans, given its resort factor,” she said.
In other developments, La Perla opened two boutiques in August, one at The Peninsula hotel in Shanghai and a second unit at the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore. Another unit in Shanghai is scheduled to open at the Plaza 66 shopping mall this month.
