It would be silly to expect anything less than a sugary sweet spectacular for candy maven Dylan Lauren’s bridal shower on Thursday night. Hostess of the fete, Darcy Miller Nussbaum, and the editorial team of Martha Stewart Weddings went the extra mile for the bride-to-be: invitations arrived in the form of strawberry-chocolate bars (embossed “D [heart] P”) nestled in a cardboard box filled with pink tissue paper and confetti, with the pertinent information printed on the candy bar’s wrapper. Upon entry into the party, guests were offered long candy necklaces next to a perfect display of pulled taffy, jelly beans, hard candy and vintage-looking lollipops, all pink. A further foray into Nussbaum’s apartment showed that every available surface was covered in sweets — even the flora on the mantelpiece was made of marzipan. A shelf on the adjoining wall hosted a selection of hard candy engagement-style “diamond” rings that would have fit in better at a Cartier boutique than by a drugstore checkout line.
Hors d’oeuvres lovingly crafted by Peter Callahan were similarly on theme, with puff-pastry rings topped with a dollop of caviar and crème fraîche instead of a diamond, and individually sized paper cones of frites decorated with smiling stick figure versions of Lauren and her fiancé, Paul Arrouet, surrounded by candy pink hearts. The bride to be was resplendent in a white dress, with her mother, Ricky Lauren, at her elbow.

Tory Burch held court in a corner near the dining table (which hosted giant glass containers in the “D [heart] P” of the invitation, filled with pink candy and small plastic bags for guests to fill up and take home) near Kelly Bensimon and Sylvia Weinstock. Lauren Bush, engaged to marry Dylan’s brother David, was on hand, as were Alina Cho and Cristina Cuomo.
The proffered goodie bags proved yet another source of saccharine satiation, holding personalized tubes of jelly beans (in yellow and three shades of pink), a candy necklace with an embossed leather jewelry box and one’s very own ring pop — not quite Dylan’s sparkler, but close enough.
