Nordstrom upped its conversation on Snapchat by staging a “college challenge” asking people to vote for a favorite university.
Snapchatters on March 28 voted for one of five universities selected by Nordstrom — University of South Carolina, University of Oregon, University of Arizona, UCLA and Florida State. These are colleges that Nordstrom recruits from around the country, and they are active on Snapchat. By a long shot, University of South Carolina in Columbia won with 1,609 votes while the other schools each garnered in the range of 600 votes.
The challenge culminated Tuesday with a Nordstrom “epic shoe” party under a tent on the University of South Carolina, with a runway walk-off judged by Karlie Kloss and the winners getting photos with Kloss. For the crowd of 4,000, there were tote bag screen printing, foot massages, a DJ, and 2,000 seniors received $100 vouchers for shoes at Nordstrom.
Nordstrom has had Snapchat account for about a year, posting stories revolving around store events, like the launch of Seattle Seahawk’s Russell Wilson men’s wear line called Good Man Brand and another post with Ciara, the spokesmodel for Topshop, which is sold at Nordstrom.

“The Snapchat college challenge reflects an effort to be where our customers are and to communicate with them the way they like,” said Nordstrom spokeswoman Pamela Lopez. Depending on the occasion, Nordstrom posts a video or still pictures or both. “It’s a great storytelling platform that allows us to share from a unique perspective.”
