NEW YORK — Julie Greiner has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s Florida, the $1.7 billion Miami-based division of Federated Department Stores.
Greiner, currently senior executive vice president and director of stores at Bloomingdale’s and a key player in the chain’s expansion, becomes one of the nation’s few females leading a large retail operation. She starts her new job July 1 and succeeds Timothy M. Adams, who recently became chairman and ceo of Macy’s Home Store.
At Bloomingdale’s, also a Federated division, her responsibilities included visual merchandising and store planning. “She did a spectacular job being focused on our brand strategy and lifting our standards in the store,” said chairman and ceo Michael Gould. He said Greiner has a balanced skill set, rising through Bloomingdale’s buying organization and shifting to the stores’ organization. Her successor has not been named.
At Macy’s Florida, Greiner, 51, joins N.K. “Trip” Tripathy, president, and J. David Scheiner, vice chair and director of stores. The division operates 61 stores, all in Florida, and has 9,800 employees.
While retailers, including Federated, continue to be largely ruled by men, Federated does have some women in top-level management, including corporate vice chair Susan D. Kronick, to whom Macy’s Florida reports; Karen Hoguet, executive vice president and chief financial officer; Janet Grove, vice chairman of Federated Merchandising Group, and Amy Hanson, president of FACS, the financial, administrative and credit services arm.
