NEW YORK — Hearst Magazines has named Joanna Coles as editor in chief of Marie Claire. Coles was previously executive editor of More.
Lesley Jane Seymour, editor in chief since 2001, is leaving the company. This is the first replacement of a Hearst editor in chief since October 2005, when Stephen Drucker replaced Mark Mayfield at House Beautiful.
Marie Claire’s newsstand performance was flat in the second half of last year, averaging 543,908 copies per issue, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Ad pages through May are up 3.5 percent from last year, according to Media Industry Newsletter. Hearst officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning.
