LONDON — European stock markets gained modest ground in early trading on Tuesday, with the exception of the FTSE 100 in London, which was flat at 6,204.18.
The FTSE MIB was up 2.5 percent to 17,353.451 while the CAC 40 in Paris advanced 0.7 percent to 4,371.67. The DAX in Frankfurt gained 0.5 percent to 10,017.52.
The euro traded at $1.13, while the pound fetched $1.46 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.04 at 11:30 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Zalando, 4 percent to 26.80 euros; Jimmy Choo, 2.8 percent to 1.10 pounds, and Yoox Net-a-porter, 2 percent to 23.93 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Bonmarche Holdings, 2.2 percent to 1.28 pounds; Boohoo.com, 1.7 percent to 0.57 pounds, and SuperGroup, 1.4 percent to 14.55 pounds.
