In the crowded landscape of luxury jewelry, designer Karina Choudhrie stands out with her eponymous brand, introduced after more than a decade and a half of curating bespoke pieces. Drawing inspiration from the intrinsic beauty of nature and historical eras, Choudhrie crafts contemporary, wearable art for confident women worldwide — setting a new standard in the marriage of high design and practical elegance.
While gold and diamonds are hallmarks of her collection, Choudhrie also focuses on naturally colored gemstones in a rainbow of hues as a way to “paint with nature’s elements.” Notably, Choudhrie partnered with the Cruzeiro Mine in Brazil on a 10-piece capsule set from her Vitamin Pink collection to celebrate natural gemstones and colors from the Earth. The tourmaline collection is accented with minerals and semiprecious stones such as malachite, mother-of-pearl and onyx. Choudhrie said she treasures them for their “transformative beauty and the history they hold.”
London’s decorative columns, arches and gates serve as an inspiration for the Icon collection of linear shapes, giving off the look of overlapping hearts or double infinity symbols — and has become a brand signature.
Here, Choudhrie delves into the motivations behind her brand, her commitment to crafting heirloom-quality jewelry that suits everyday life, how “comfort and beauty must be one” and her vision for the future.
Fairchild Studio: What prompted you to launch your eponymous brand, Karina Choudhrie Jewels?
Karina Choudhrie: After spending over 15 years in the jewelry world designing bespoke pieces, I realized I needed to challenge my creative potential further. I took four years to fully immerse myself in creating a high and fine jewelry brand that emphasizes heirloom quality and every day, comfortable luxury.
My aim was to ensure our fine jewelry was crafted with the same meticulous process as our high jewelry. Our mother earth inspires me — and I find immense joy and peace in working with unique gemstones such as precious, semiprecious and minerals, each serving as creative inspiration for me.
Fairchild Studio: How would you describe the Karina Choudhrie aesthetic? How do you think about design?
K.C.: Our aesthetic is contemporary, feminine and strong. I draw inspiration from architecture and history, believing that all designs are reflections of nature and past eras. Wearability is crucial; the pieces must be comfortable and versatile enough to pair with a client’s existing jewelry. My commitment to quality craftsmanship — primarily in Valenza, Italy, and Jaipur — ensures that every design becomes an integral part of our style.
Fairchild Studio: Who is the Karina Choudhrie brand’s target audience? Who are you designing for in mind?
K.C.: We design for confident, powerful women who wear jewelry effortlessly. Our clients appreciate the versatility and distinctiveness of our collections, allowing them to transition seamlessly from daily activities to special occasions. As a female-led brand, we aim to channel feminine energy through timeless, wearable pieces that have a strong, colorful design language.
Fairchild Studio: What differentiates your design process/brand from others in the jewelry space?
K.C.: I dedicated four years to meticulously developing my fine jewelry collection, ensuring every detail was perfect. It’s about how the jewelry is worn, more than just the design, fit and comfort are essential. Working with the finest materials and craftsmen sets us apart. Our Icon and Vitamin Pink collections embody the sensibility of high jewelry, designed to mix and match with pieces from other brands.
Fairchild Studio: How do you see the brand continuing to grow?
K.C.: Having been in the jewelry industry for 18 years, I feel I’ve only just begun. I plan to expand and evolve our Icon and Vitamin Pink collections while building relationships in the U.S. market. My high jewelry line, Under the Sea, tells a love story about our oceans, featuring rare colored gemstones that transform into one-of-a-kind, wearable art. As a gemologist, I find it fascinating to create pieces that represent different parts of the earth and tell their unique stories.
