Gianvito Rossi
Shoe designer Gianvito Rossi launched his brand in 2006, in the shoemaking hub of San Mauro Pascoli, Italy. A third-generation shoemaker who grew up under the tutelage of his legendary father Sergio Rossi, Gianvito struck out on his own after the family severed ties with the Sergio Rossi brand. (Kering, then called PPR, bought Sergio Rossi in 2000.)
Gianvito spent his childhood years watching his father in the family’s Italian factories and later worked alongside him for two decades. During that unique apprenticeship, Gianvito got an in-depth education in the intricacies of design and the complexities of the production process. He also learned the importance of creating commercial product that is more timeless than trendy.
From his earliest days, Rossi’s label was coveted by the cool-girl crowd looking for an alternative to mainstay luxury brands. His network of consumer and celebrity fans has included Diane Kruger, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, among many others. Some of his most popular styles include the Bijoux sandal with puffed straps, Portofino sandal and Gianvito pump.
In July 2023, luxury conglomerate Richemont snapped up a controlling stake in the Gianvito Rossi brand. Terms were not disclosed, but Gianvito retained a stake in his eponymous label and remains at the helm.
