Regenerative Organic Apparel Brand Vottera Launches

The father-daughter duo behind fashion brands Terra Thread and Gallant International have introduced a new Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) cotton clothing line called Vottera.

According to founders Vik and Vizan Giri, the brand is an expansion of the environmental and social mission of their existing entities.

“We saw an opportunity to create something truly transformative,” Vik said. “Vottera isn’t just about creating comfortable everyday clothing; it’s about building a regenerative system that empowers farming communities and rethinks the way we farm cotton.”

Vottera parent company Gallant International achieved ROC status in 2022, ensuring that the farms producing cotton for their clothing meets the highest standards for soil health, animal welfare and farmworker fairness. The company currently supports more than 1,250 smallholder farms in Odisha and Karnataka, India, on their ROC journey.

This laid the groundwork for the Giris to launch Vottera as an ROC brand from day one. The company’s 2024 cotton harvest represents the collaborative efforts of 432 Indigenous farmers whose agricultural practices positively impact the environment and their local communities. These farmers use a regenerative organic agriculture model that improves soil health, increases biodiversity, enhances water retention and improves the livelihoods of farming families.

“This approach goes beyond organic certification by actively rebuilding ecosystems while producing high-quality cotton,” the company said.

The Giris tapped into the expertise gained with their Terra Thread brand—which produces organic cotton bags that are sold at Urban Outfitters, Target and Nordstrom, among other outlets—to inform the creation of Vottera, which is short for “Vote for the Earth.” The brand’s inaugural collection includes unisex hoodies, sweatshirts, t-shirts, polos and beanies.

“Terra Thread was conceived to reduce our dependence on polyester. Many of today’s bags are made from synthetic fibers. And we’re advocating instead for more natural options, which break down in soils, can be repurposed, and are healthier for the customer,” Vizan said. “We want to create that magic with Vottera now.”

Like Gallant International’s other products, Vottera clothing is made in fair trade-certified factories with cotton that is also produced in line with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
