Tokyo-based YKK Corporation has been selected for top honors by the international environmental non-profit organization CDP as a Supplier Engagement Leader in their FY2024 Supplier Engagement Assessment for the third consecutive year.
The CDP is an international non-profit organization with a global system to disclose environmental information by companies and local governments. To be named a Supplier Engagement Leader, companies must complete the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire and receive the highest rating in their efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions in collaboration with their suppliers.
YKK said this recognition shows that the company has been evaluated as a global leader for its initiatives, ranging from governance and targets to reduce GHG emissions throughout the entire supply chain to efforts to reduce GHG emissions in collaboration with suppliers.
Takayuki Aoki, VP of procurement and logistics, YKK Corporation, said the YKK Sustainability Vision 2050, which the company established in 2020, and its “Cycle of Goodness” philosophy to help others have been guiding forces for the global company.
“In addition to our own activities to reduce GHG emissions, we also collaborate with our suppliers to promote initiatives to contribute to reducing GHG emissions globally through engagement initiatives,” Aoki said.
These initiatives include working with strategic partner suppliers to develop low-carbon materials and to use them in YKK’s fastening products and establishing a closed-loop recycling model across its supply chain, he added.
YKK is aiming for climate neutrality by 2050. In February, YKK was recognized with the top “A” rating in the 2024 Climate Change Survey, which was also conducted by CDP, for the second consecutive year.
