Labels, zippers and buttons had their moment in the spotlight at Munich Fabric Start.
The German trade show curated trims into four themes—Untamed, Conversant, Nightcall and At Ease —that reflect broader trends for Fall/Winter 2026-2027 apparel.
Untamed finds inspiration in “deeply rooted rituals” and how consumers are rediscovering “the natural and the archaic” to find their place in an increasingly complex world. Materials such as wood, stone and handmade textiles reflect this mindset and enhance trims with earthy textures that contrast against sleek metals. Fur and faux fur are also key elements.
The desire to live in the present inspires At Ease, a gender neutral and seasonless theme. Demand for comfort, simplicity and informality drive this trend. As a result, ’90s minimalism mixed with geometric patterns, dusty colorways, monochromatic designs and elements from menswear dominate designs.
Nightcall highlights how darkness inspires the imagination. Gritty club atmospheres, ’80s and ’90s music and disruptive styling that creates contrast between the feminine and the masculine offer a form of escapism in the theme. Matte and glassy surfaces and pops of colors that have a glowing effect add light to the overall dark and edgy story.
Conversant is characterized by a sense of insecurity and the need for stability in an increasingly tech-driven world. Design details are pulled from American sportswear and British heritage, offering a balance of coolness, conservatism, sport and “the right amount of realism.”
