Wide-leg, straight and flare jeans may be trendy but classic skinny jeans continue to have the unwavering support of one of the world’s biggest stars: Taylor Swift.
The 14-time Grammy Award winning pop star attended the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Las Vegas Raiders game last month in black skinnies, reigniting online debates about the fit’s status in fashion.
Though women’s skinny jeans have lost market share in recent years and sell, on average, for lower prices than trendier fits, the silhouette has been a staple in Swift’s closet for years. A true millennial, 34-year-old Swift wore skinny jeans throughout the 2010s, pairing dark wash skinnies with other hallmark items of the time like oxford shoes, tall boots, chunky scarves and duffle coats in autumnal colors.
Designers are following suit, too. The figure-hugging fit was back on the runway this year, seen in collection by MM6 Maison Margiela, Miu Miu, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen.
When she’s not wearing skinny jeans, Swift leans into her Midnights era with bejeweled jeans by NYC-based label Area—and Swifties take note. The brand’s $695 black jeans with crystal cutouts sold out after Swift wore the jeans the Super Bowl earlier this year. She’s also worn the brand’s crystal-trimmed jean shorts and crystal-embellished butterfly jeans.
Denim corset tops by Versace is another go-to item in Swift’s closet, worn recently with denim short-shorts and burgundy over-the-knee boots. She’s also stepped out in EB Denim’s corset denim dress made with upcycled material.
Known for her approachable and casual style, Swift has also been known to hit the recording studio or meet up with friends in NYC in denim skirts, cutout off shorts and bib-front denim dresses.
