Denim dwelling is in.
Mobilious, a new sofa company with showrooms in Los Angeles and Ottawa, Canada, unveiled a new collection of upholstered sofas that applies fashion’s most democratic fabric into living room classics.
The company, which manufacturers its furnishings in Hong Kong, partnered with Turkish denim mill Bossa to develop IndigoGuard, the special fade resistant denim used throughout the collection.
Unlike conventional denim that shows wear over time, IndigoGuard undergoes a proprietary dual-phase stabilization process engineered to preserve depth of color and eliminate fading.
The treatment begins with a water wash to deeply cleanse the fabric and prepare the cotton fibers for color locking. This is followed by a controlled fixation phase, using acetic acid and sodium sulfate to stabilize the indigo dye, and a specially developed polymer resin that binds directly to the yarn. The result is a breathable, anti-static, antimicrobial textile that remains rich in tone.
The fabric was in development for three years. During this time, Mobilious said it conducted 128 fabric trials, adjusted over 60 chemical formulas and tested 47 washing cycles.
The final cotton and linen fabrics boast a tightly woven structure and crisp, visible grain. Sofas are available in blue and white denim.
Mobilious highlights how denim’s versatility fits into several trending home decor aesthetics including modern farmhouse, Scandinavian and coastal. The sofa collection takes inspiration from iconic home furnishing designs.
The Nuvola, pays tribute to the Cloud Modular Sofa by British designer Timothy Oulton, featuring high-resilience foam cores wrapped with feathers and down. The deep-profiled Fiorello channels the Belgian Track-Arm Slipcovered Sofa with a removable denim skirt for easy care. The Bluoro adapts the DNA of a Scandinavian modular sofa—loose cushions, skirted base and generous proportions—into a denim canvas accented with golden piping.
The collection retails for $1,720-$3,780.
