Primark Launches In-Store Repair Workshops in the US

Primark is bringing its popular “Love It for Longer” repair workshops to the U.S.

The Irish fashion retailer launched the workshops in 2022 as part of Primark Cares, the company’s sustainability strategy and long-term commitment to make more sustainable fashion affordable and accessible for all.

The retailer has held nearly 400 free sessions in stores across the U.K., Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Spain and France. Primark also offers online tutorials.

“Over the last three years, we’ve hosted hundreds of repair workshops in our stores across Europe and the U.K. and are excited roll out this offering in a handful of U.S. markets—a major sustainability milestone for the brand and our conscious consumers,” said Kevin Tulip, Primark’s U.S. president. “We know that educating customers on repair is a small step in our journey to becoming a more sustainable business, but through our scale, we can reach many people and hopefully spark some change in how people care for and wear their clothes.”

The U.S. workshops will take place at Primark stores at the Staten Island Mall in Staten Island, N.Y. and Tysons Corner Center in Tysons, Va. on June 12.

Each free in-store workshop will teach simple mending and upcycling techniques, from fixing hems to adding buttons or pockets. No experience is required. Attendees will receive a complimentary sewing kit, repair booklet and reusable tote bag.

“Bringing our free Love it for Longer repair workshops across the pond to the U.S. has been a long-held ambition for us,” said Lynne Walker, director of Primark Cares. “We know people want to make their clothes last longer, but often just need a little help getting started. These workshops give them that—because sustainability shouldn’t be out of reach for anyone.”

Extending the life of clothing is a key pillar of the Primark Cares strategy. It includes durability framework designed to help keep clothing functional and wearable without requiring too much maintenance and repair.

Since January 2024, Primark has tested eligible clothing including denim to see how they withstand 45 washes. The brand found that 56 percent of its denim products passed the test.
