Armedangels is taking another step away from hazardous chemicals by becoming a ZDHC signatory.
Last month, the German denim committed to the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Program, a multi-stakeholder initiative to eliminate harmful chemicals from global fashion, footwear and leather supply chains. As a signatory, Armedangels will have access to ZDHC’s chemical and water modules, feedback and insights to help shape future strategies and the ability to evaluate its performance.
The brand’s commitment to ZDHC aligns with its Impact Roadmap, a comprehensive sustainability strategy launched this year. The strategy focuses on five pillars, including climate action, and a long-term goal to eliminate the discharge of hazardous chemicals, preventing wastewater and air pollution, and enabling the recovery of water and chemistry across the supply chain.
Other pillars focus on social impact, traceability and transparency, circular systems and “products of tomorrow.”
“We want fashion without toxic shortcuts. Getting there takes more than good will—it takes accountability, systems and real collaboration. That’s why we’re joining ZDHC: to step up, not show off,” said Julia Aruni Kirschner, Armedangels director of impact and innovation.
Chemical management is just one important part of the brand’s sustainability work. Fiber selction is another. According to Armedangels’ 2024 Impact Report, over 99 percent of the fibers it uses in its collections are “preferred fibers.”
The brand’s DetoxDenim line uses organic cotton, recycled cotton and Tencel with Refibra technology as well as a GOTS-certified softener to ensure greater elasticity. In April, Armedangels bowed the first line of denim made with SaXcell, a high-quality lyocell derived from textile waste.
ZDHC has over 300 signatories from across industry including brands, suppliers, solution providers and chemical suppliers. Armedangels joins other denim brands like G-Star Raw, Levi Strauss & Co and Ralph Lauren in their commitment to detox the industry.
