Mud Jeans Earns New Circularity Label

Mud Jeans has become the first denim brand to achieve the TESTEX Circularity Label, a certification that independently verifies durability, repairability and recyclability in textiles.

The certification confirms that the Dutch brand meets and exceeds all three pillars of circularity.

The brand’s durability is proven through rigorous wear-and-care testing aligned with the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) framework, a science-based method for product footprints designed to streamline compliance with the upcoming EU Green Claims Directive and Eco-design Rules.

Repairability is embedded in its design philosophy and services, ensuring jeans can be easily repaired and worn for longer. Through a partnership with Mended, Mud encourages customers to repair their jeans and covers half the cost of the repair.

Recyclability is central to Mud’s mission. The brand’s focus on mono-material allows jeans to be recycled into new denim, and a takeback program ensures jeans—that contain at least 96 percent cotton—are recycled.

The certification reinforces Mud Jeans’ role as an industry leader in circular fashion and sets a new benchmark for denim, according to the brand. Independent validation from TESTEX demonstrates that circular design can be measured, verified, and scaled moving the textile industry toward a more responsible future.

Circularity is part of our DNA. We design garments that last, then reuse and recycle materials wherever possible. Having an independent body certify what we do gives us credible proof, not just claims,” said Dion Vijgeboom, head of product and operations at Mud Jeans.

TESTEX is an independent Swiss testing and certification institute, founded in 1846. Suitable for brands and manufacturers, TESTEX Circularity Label promotes clothing designed to last and supports companies for sustainable growth with limited environmental impact. TESTEX is also a founding and member institute of the OEKO-TEX Association.

TESTEX Circularity Label was introduced in 2024.
