The big news from the Lenzing Denim team this week at Kingpins Show Amsterdam is the launch of our new TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 fibers. This debut is a long awaited solution that our customers have been asking for: a lyocell that looks closer to cotton. Lenzing accomplished this aesthetic by cutting our fibers into varied lengths, mimicking the natural variation that happens in grown fibers like cotton or hemp.
For denim, TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 has four main benefits. For one, these offer bright blue washdowns with none of the grayish, dull or blurry shades that are seen with conventional MMCF (regenerated cellulosic fibers). They are also duller than standard TENCEL™ for a more matte look. Lyocell also boasts higher indigo dye uptake, allowing manufacturers to achieve darker shades with fewer resources. And finally, while they look like cotton, HV100 fibers give garments the supreme softness that TENCEL™ is known for but with less fluidity.
To help inspire the industry and show what is achievable with HV100, we worked with 17 denim mills across Türkiye, China, Pakistan, Egypt and Spain on a collection of upwards of 35 fabrics. The resulting textiles range in color from dark to light washes and span different weights. These fabrics also show that denim makers can create authentic looks that still carry the TENCEL™ softness.
