Interloop Earns Alliance for Water Stewardship Gold Certification

Pakistan-based fabric producer Interloop has earned the Alliance for Water Stewardship’s (AWS) Gold Certification for its facilities in Lahore.

The company’s denim and hosiery plants—which are both rated LEED Platinum for sustainability—implemented water conservation guidelines according to the AWS Standard framework. The standard is used as a guide for organizations to assess their water use and impact, helping to promote collaborative and sustainable watershed management.

The AWS Standard applies to all types of water used by a business in normal activities and can include surface water, groundwater and recycled water, among other types.

Interloop has worked within the AWS Standard framework to reduce its water footprint and promote conservation through initiatives such as integrating Nanobubble Tech, which removes impurities from water, improving production processes and reducing water usage.

Interloop also extended its water stewardship initiatives outside its facilities, establishing a drinking water plant at the Social Security Hospital and contributing to the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program at nearby Rosa Girls’ School.

“Receiving the AWS certification shows our commitment to protecting the natural resources we rely on,” said Faryal Sadiq, chief marketing officer of Interloop. “We’re proud of our team’s work and determined to operate efficiently and responsibly in the communities where we work and live.”

Interloop has put major emphasis on sustainability beyond its water conservation efforts. The company has a goal of 70 percent of its materials being sustainable or sustainably sourced by 2025.

In 2023, Interloop rolled out their Loomshake technology, a product spun from cotton and banana fiber. Guess started using the fiber in its products earlier this year. Interloop also produces denim, apparel and hosiery for brands such as Nike, Adidas and H&M.

AWS Gold Certification recognizes sites that push their water stewardship performance to higher levels. The certification is valid for three years, and subject to annual surveillance audits.

According to Interloop, it’s currently the only global textile company to earn AWS Gold Certification. And the company said it plans to expand water efficiency efforts across all operations and its supply chain.
