Gap Taps Awake NY for ’90s-Inspired Streetwear Collection

Gap continues to tap into the cultural zeitgeist by collaborating with creative partners who bring fresh perspectives to its heritage designs.

On Friday, the brand launched a new collection with Awake NY, the New York-based brand founded by Queens native Angelo Baque known for combining the city’s downtown aesthetic with refined silhouettes and elevated wardrobe staples.

The collection is inspired by the Gap archives and rooted in ’90s streetwear culture, channeling “the energy, ethos and people of New York.”

Awake NY’s signature graphic treatments and statement-making design are featured across the range of nostalgic men’s and women’s Gap essentials like logo and heavyweight GapSweats fleece, boxy T-shirts, quarter-zip sweatshirts and more.

Coordinates include a denim jacket and denim shorts with lasered polka dots and double branding, and a reversible plaid jacket and matching shorts.

A limited-edition ‘47 Brand Gap × Awake NY New York Mets speaks to the locality of the collection while a Gap x Awake soccer jersey taps into World Cup fever. An exclusive co-branded blanket is also available. Prices range from $18–268.

The Gap x Awake NY collection is available on Gap.com and at slect Gap stores in New York, New Jersey, San Franscisco and Los Angeles. Limited styles are available at Awake NY’s flagship stores on Orchard Street in New York City.

The collection will also be available internationally in the Middle East, Czechia, China, Turkey, the U.K., Japan, and on Zalando.

Gap has been on a collaboration spree as of late. The retailer has released collections with Dôen, Harlem’s Fashion Row, Summer Fridays, Sandy Liang and more.
