10 Best Pieces to Grab From Gap and Victoria Beckham’s Latest
Only Victoria Beckham could put her name on a basic, heather-gray Gap hoodie and make it not only cost over $100 but also sell out in a flash, which is exactly what’s going to happen with every last piece from her just-dropped Gap collection (if the Zac Posen–helmed label’s past designer collabs — avec Sandy Liang and Dôen, for instance — are any indication).
The sartorial bedfellows announced an unexpected, multi-season apparel partnership, which they’re kicking off with a 38-piece spring capsule of what can best be described as utilitarian-chic, “building block” basics that will provide an apt jumping-off point for all your seasonal stylings. Prices start at $34 and go up to $328, so if you’re eager to be part of this historic moment, your foot in the door can be something as minimalist as the $34 Gap × Victoria Beckham Organic Cotton Logo Crop T-Shirt or, if you can’t get enough of Posh Spice’s design vision, the $328 Trench Coat that screams (more accurately, whispers) “I have a pied-à-terre in the sixth arrondissement, what about you?”
“To me, Gap is an all-American icon — a brand that has always created timeless pieces for everybody’s wardrobe, with a sharp attention to detail,” Beckham shared in a press release. “Bringing my design perspective to those everyday essentials and working with a team that shares [the] same commitment to craftsmanship and execution has made this collaboration incredibly special.”
The collection’s campaign is steeped in allusions to the denim styles and fashion trends of the ’80s and early ’90s. Fittingly, this period marked the first time Beckham entered a Gap store with her mom, according to a recent interview. “From the moment I first stepped into a Gap, it felt so new and so fresh,” she remarked.
On what she wanted to emphasize in her Gap line: “What I do is quite sophisticated, elegant, [and] timeless. It’s about focusing on items that everyone needs in their wardrobe. The key pieces that everyone should have would be the perfect pair of jeans, the perfect white T-shirt, and… the perfect trench. I want a woman to feel empowered and like the best version of herself even if she’s just throwing on jeans and a T-shirt, you know?”
This model-off-duty, easy-breezy je ne sais quoi is nothing new, having been strategically propelled into the public eye (so much for effortlessness) by the Bella Hadids and Sarah Pidgeons-cum-Carolyn Bessettes of the world as of late. Where Gap x Victoria Beckham really feels like a breath of fresh air is in the midst of its more androgynous offerings — dominated by military-surplus-green cargo pants; minidresses that are far from your slinky LBD, instead bringing something inherently boyish to the table vis-à-vis heavyweight twill and bold patch pockets at center; denim-clad zip shirts that, contrary to Beckham’s stealth-wealth personal aesthetic, read more honky tonk-meets-big city; and full-scale utility jumpsuits that look like what the “Ghostbusters” castmembers wish they could wear.
While the release’s “elevated fabrications and refined construction” are highlighted by Gap, we think the genius here lies in how anti-Beckham most of the silhouettes feel. Gone are the draping silks, sharp-shouldered profiles, and jewel-toned hues. In their wake comes a grittier version of the woman who turned a music career into a booming fashion empire — and, in light of recent events that continue to make headlines, there might be a good reason for this transformation.
For the most part, the 52-year-old keeps it light, having just toasted to the clothing launch with her husband and (select) children in tow at a star-studded NYC bash. She’s having fun with the new project while dictating what trends people should be revisiting this spring: namely capri pants, Canadian tuxedos, and the “hoodie as going-out non-negotiable” concept.
Early access to shop was granted to Gap’s cardmembers (joining this party only takes a few clicks of the keyboard), which is why select styles like the High Rise Pleated Shorts and Hooded Pullover Jacket are already sold out. Fear not, though: Even if you walk away with just an accessory, you’ll still feel radiant in the shadow of VB’s aura.
Gap x Victoria Beckham isn’t radically pushing the envelope, but it will toss some status points your way. And what more could a woman ask for?

Don’t sleep on that red stitching subtly announcing itself on the hoodie’s pocket: a sneaky through line that connects the collection and lets people know it’s not just any Gap pullover they’re looking at but one that was blessed with Beckham’s touch.

Gap × Victoria Beckham Denim Zip Shirt
This rigid denim shirt’s tailoring begs to be paired with a bolo tie. Resist the urge and wear it sans accessories, tucked into a pair of straight-leg jeans for the ultimate street-style statement.

Gap × Victoria Beckham Loose Utility Jumpsuit
A source once claimed that Beckham jumpstarted the jumpsuit revolution. We wouldn’t go so far as to say all that, but we also would not be mad if this short-sleeved, loose, poplin-based gem resuscitated the transitional-weather style for a month or two.
