Evisu Unveils ‘Year of the Dragon’ Denim Capsule

Evisu, the Japanese denim brand with a cult following, combines Japanese and Chinese cultures in its “Year of the Dragon” collection launching Dec. 20.

The commemorative Lunar New Year collection includes a raw denim jacket and jeans. Just 400 jackets and 500 jeans will be available worldwide. Each garment is embellished with a numbered gold leather patch, underscoring their collectability.

In Chinese mythology, the dragon is considered a powerful creature, symbolizing the essence of good fortune by controlling the wind and rain. The dragon is revered as a water deity in Japanese culture.

Evisu incorporates these elements into the designs. The pieces draw inspiration from “Ryū Odori,” with motifs like a Daruma doll used for making wishes intertwined with cherry blossoms, and the “divine dragon” to symbolize a lucky road ahead. Other designs include the Japanese kanji for “dragon” and the phrase “Year of the Dragon for Fortune Living.”

Red and gold thread are used throughout, intended to ward off evil and enhance prosperity.

Each garment comes in special wood box adorned with gold coin patterns—a symbol of good fortune in Japan—and laser-engraved Evisu logos.

Evisu’s Year of the Dragon capsule will be released in limited quantities at select stores in China and Taiwan starting Dec. 20. The collection will drop online and globally on Dec. 27 and in Japan on Jan. 2.
