Etsy’s selection for color and texture of 2026 is good news for denim brands.
While WGSN predicts controlled chaos for 2026 and Pantone is hedging its bet on Cloud Dancer, a version of white with a side of controversy, the global online marketplace’s predictions for the new year provide comfort.
The Etsy Color of the Year is patina blue, a hue inspired copper’s natural aging process.
“Patina blue is one of those shades that just instantly makes you exhale,” Etsy stated, adding how the color “embodies the quiet magic of change and the way materials evolve as they’re lived-in and loved.”
Those qualities align with the ever-growing vintage denim market, and denim mills’ and brands’ quest to recreate worn effects. Etsy added that the hue reflects a growing appreciation for pieces that wear in, not out—which helps explain why searches for “blue copper” have surged more than 3-times.
The indigo-inspired hue applies well to fashion and home, a category that denim brands like Citizens of Humanity have recently explored. “Patina blue brings a calm confidence to any space, whether your style leans more modern, vintage-inspired, or somewhere in between,” Etsy said.
For the first time, Etsy named a Texture of the Year—washed linen.
“Texture has always played a huge role in how people experience their homes and wardrobes. Now, after years of hyper-polished, ultra-curated interiors, there’s a clear appetite for textures with natural variation, and washed linen has emerged as the standout of the moment, with searches for linen clothing skyrocketing over 1,200 percent,” the marketplace stated.
The denim industry has found an appreciation for linen and how the fiber enhances and refines what is traditionally considered to be a tough and rugged fabric. Recent fabric collections from mills showed 100 percent linen denim, fabrics made with linen, cotton and hemp blends, and others incorporating recycled linen from The Flax Company. Some mills are recreating the natural fiber’s grain on denim fabrics to give the look of linen without the premium price. Lenzing also introduced Tencel 2.2, a denser and coarser variant of traditional Tencel lyocell with less luster and a drier hand—qualities that mimic the look and feel of linen.
Etsy added how washed linen, with its lived-in drape and subtle tonal variations, captures the tactile shift to comfort, softness, and quiet luxury without losing the character that makes pieces special.
