New Italian Collaboration Upcycles Leftover Denim

A new collaboration highlights Italy’s innovative twist on responsible fashion.

Blue of a Kind unveiled Stories, a capsule collection that repurposes leftover fabrics from Isko Luxury by PG.

Isko Luxury by PG is the Turkish mill’s fashion-forward product line developed by Italian textile designer Paolo Gnutti. The line reinvents Isko’s popular fabric franchises with Gnutti’s high-end approach to fabric product development.

“Although we had never formally collaborated before, we crossed paths on several occasions and came to admire each other’s work. In many ways, we feel we complement one another,” Gnutti said.

Isko made the leftover fabrics available to facilitate the collaboration. The materials are mostly from collections that the mill ended but still had yardage in stock and from sample test production.

Staying true to Blue of a Kind’s production philosophy, the capsule uses minimal water and eliminated chemicals altogether, while certain garments were treated using laser technology.

“Our initial plan was for Paolo to reimagine a selection of Blue of a Kind’s existing styles using his signature flock denim technique. We carefully chose pieces that capture the essence of our collaboration while staying relevant to current fashion trends. Consequently, we focused on relaxed silhouettes, opting for wider cuts and loose fits in both tops and bottoms,” said Fabrizio Consoli, founder Blue of a Kind.

The Stories capsule collection retails for 220-590 euros, approximately $230-$620. Flocked styles span jeans, Trucker jackets and oversized trench coats.

The collaboration reinforces Blue of a Kind’s focus on sustainability. The brand launched in 2018 by upcycling vintage stock to create one-of-a-kind, handmade jeans. In 2019, Blue of a Kind is teamed with its Milanese neighbor, Candiani Denim, for a capsule collection of jeans made with the mill’s sample fabrics.
