Blue Blanket and Long John Reimagine a Vintage Jacket

Two denim heads have linked up to create a limited-edition jacket.

Italian denim brand Blue Blanket teamed with the blog Long John on a small run of 100 percent cotton jean jackets.

The partnership was born from Blue Blanket founder Antonio Di Battista’s and Long John founder Wouter Munnichs’ shared passion for denim. They met a decade ago at the Berlin trade show Bread and Butter and have stayed in contact, trading musings about heritage designs and craftsmanship.

The “Made in Italy” jacket created from 12.5 oz. ’80s-era deadstock features laurel leaf buttons, black cat-eye buttons and a co-branded Jacron patch.

However, the jacket’s defining feature is the unique chainstitch design by Italian embroiderer DM6. “Blue Blanket for Long John” is stitched in tobacco-colored thread on the back surrounded by a chain-stitched horseshoe. “B.B.” and “L. John” are stitched above the two front pockets.

On the blog, Munnichs said his inspiration for the jacket came from a garment he found years ago during one of his many “vintage denim hunting trips.” The vintage jacket from the 1960s has Western embroidery

“We tweaked the original jacket to modern standards, without losing the original look and feel. The design shows two slightly slanted breast pockets with flap closure, zig-zag reinforcement stitching, and stitched pleats on the front,” he wrote.

The jacket is available now on Long John’s website and at select Blue Blanket denim stores. It retails for 399 euros, approximately $430.

Blue Blanket has a history of collaborating with denim aficionados and niche brands. It previously partnered with Californian photographer Cory Piehowicz and Yen Jeans, a Tokyo-based premium denim label.
