Creating innovative denim has always been an art and a science and Arvind Ltd., the Ahmedabad-based Denim mill, has taken this to heart. Beyond its denim collections, Arvind extends its engagement with indigo through the Indigo Art Museum—an initiative of the Arvind Indigo Foundation and a living museum rooted in the company’s long relationship with the dye. The project explores indigo’s cultural history, artistic expression and material experimentation; its fourth edition will be presented at Kingpins Amsterdam on October 15–16, 2025, reaffirming Arvind’s commitment to celebrating indigo’s legacy and creative potential through an artistic lens.
This year, the Indigo Art Museum features Indian artist Kavin Mehta’s Prelude, a series of seven stone and ceramic sculptures dyed in natural indigo.
“The indigo serves as a metaphor for the inner self—vast, layered and often overlooked—urging us to turn inward with the same reverence we extend to built spaces,” according to the artist statement.
These varied media indigo interpretations function as a lab of sorts to help the industry move forward artistically and technically.
“The whole concept of the museum is that we want to explore indigo in various other mediums and make it go beyond textiles,” said Rajesh Gupta, Creative Director of Arvind Denim. “There is a lot of science needed to apply indigo to ceramics, metal, stone, photo-sensitive paper, etc., and [the museum] helps us innovate and invent new types of indigo that can then be further applied to denim and other textiles.”
The museum can also be seen as a metaphor for Arvind’s SS27 collection called “INDIGO SHIFT”, where creativity and scientific innovation are applied to the next generation of denim.
SS27: Purpose. Clarity. Harmony.
For Spring Summer 2027, Arvindsteps into Kingpins Amsterdam with a collection that redefines denim’s emotional and tactile connection—fabrics that move with meaning, balance nostalgia with innovation and embrace the clarity of a new age.
Guided by purpose, clarity and harmony, the SS27 line-up speaks to the emerging generation of conscious consumers—where beauty meets responsibility and fabric becomes an act of expression. Some highlight hues and treatments:
ROLLING IN THE DEEP: Luminous and lustrous, Luminous Blue celebrates indigo in its most expressive form—deep, bright blues that shimmer with energy and emotion. A revival of denim’s soul with a modern edge, blending saturation, sheen and depth.
REAL REAL BLUE: The truest tone of authenticity. The Real Real Blue shade stands for denim purity— bright, honest, raw. It’s denim worn with pride, not nostalgia. This is identity in indigo.
RED DRIFT: Intensity that never fades. Rich, saturated reds—bold, tactile and everlasting. Red Drift is denim that carries warmth and confidence, a rare vibrancy meant to last.
SAP GREEN: Nature meets nostalgia. A new green that feels both fresh and familiar. Sap Green brings crisp texture and timeless surfaces that could belong in your grandmother’s attic or next summer’s capsule drop.
DIRTY BLUES: The art of imperfection.Where authenticity and wear collide—Dirty Blues deliver a soulful, worn-in aesthetic that feels instantly personal.
CREAMY BLUES & AGED IRON: Soft edges, strong character. Creamy Blues melt into retro softness, while Aged Iron brings dark, grounded shades that feel like old favorites rediscovered.
ERODED & SUN-BLEACHED STORIES: Denim that remembers. Green Faded, Yellow Faded and Worn Layers channel sun-bleached summers and lived-in nostalgia—tones that evoke warmth, comfort and time’s gentle hand. Cracked Texture adds dimension, turning imperfection into art, while Denim or Leather blurs boundaries with waxed and coated surfaces that behave like a second skin.
AIR DENIM–The Light Revolution: Weightless, effortless, infinite movement. Arvind introduces a new era of Air Denim—fabrics engineered with advanced fibers for an anti-gravity feel. Cloudstate floats with airy softness, moving like mist, while Summercore blends presence and lightness for endless summer days.
WORLD OF WOMEN: Denim designed in balance. A fearless expression of femininity, Error and Balance redefine women’s denim—raw yet refined, imperfect yet poised. These fabrics celebrate comfort through balance stretchability, softness and courage through contrast.
Overall, Arvind’s SS27 collection brings clarity to chaos—denim that reflects the times yet transcends them. It’s a journey from earth to air, from deep indigos to lightest clouds, from heritage to the horizon. This season, denim is not just worn—it’s felt.
