Armedangels is taking a step to reduce textile waste.
The German denim brand debuted a new denim collection made with SaXcell fiber, a high-quality lyocell derived from textile waste. Armedangels is the first brand to launch products made with the innovative circular material.
SaXcell is made from 30 percent RCS-certified cotton sourced from pre- and post-consumer textile waste and 70 percent FSC-certified wood pulp. This combination ensures a resource-efficient and durable fiber.
The women’s collection includes a wide-leg jean, a barrel jean and a sleeveless shift dress. All styles are made a 57 percent organic cotton and 43 percent SaXcell blended fabric.
A diagram on Armedangels’ website explains SaXcell’s closed-loop recycling process to consumers, describing how garments are collected, sorted, decolored and turned into pulp before becoming SaXcell fiber that is spun and woven into new articles.
“Armedangels stands for innovation and responsibility in fashion. With SaXcell, we set an example for progress and accountability in the textile industry. Fashion that respects the planet and secures the future,” the brand stated.
SaXcell is well positioned to make an impact in the denim industry as brands and mills look for ways to use more recycled content. It can be cut to specified lengths, spun into yarns and woven or knitted into fabrics.
In 2023, SaXcell signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aditya Birla Group’s, Birla Cellulose, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of man-made cellulosic fiber, to pave a wave to expand the production of SaXcell. The following year Turkish mill Bossa launched Endless Blue, a line of stretch denim fabrics made with the regenerated cellulose fiber.
