Shuffle Board: SAC CEO Out, Dr. Martens and Express CFO Changes

J.Jill appointed Maria Martinez as its new chief human resources officer (CHRO), effective immediately. She will lead the specialty women’s retailer’s human resources function and strategy, including talent acquisition and retention, corporate and retail business partners, culture and engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion, corporate communications and total rewards.

Express

Express announced that Jason Judd, senior vice president, chief financial officer (CFO) and treasurer, is resigning, effective Nov. 17. Judd’s resignation was not due to any disagreements with the company or relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices.

Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens appointed Giles Wilson as CFO, starting in 2024. Current CFO Jon Mortimore, who is retiring, has agreed to stay with the business until the end of the financial year.

Wilson joins the British footwear company from William Grant & Sons, one of the largest global spirit companies and owner of Hendrick’s Gin. Before this, Wilson was at John Menzies as CFO before becoming CEO.

Oiselle

Arielle Knutson Oiselle

Women’s running brand Oiselle appointed Arielle Knutson as its new CEO. She joins the company from sports hydration brand Nuun, where she was vice president of marketing. Knutson takes over from interim CEO, Atsuko Tamura, who has been with the company since 2015, serving as president until mid-2022 when she stepped into the CEO role following founder Sally Bergesen’s departure.

Knutson’s background in building and growing brands across multiple industries, with a focus on active lifestyle, outdoors and CPG brands, positions her to continue to drive strategic growth and partnerships for Oiselle.

Swiftwick

Made-in-USA sock performance sock brand Swiftwick has made several executive appointments. Former Away executive Mark Chou has been named CEO. Former Toms’ vice president of international sales Jimmy Leach has joined the board, along with K.P. McNeill, CEO of Imogene + Willie and co-founder and former CEO of Billy Reid.

Chou joins Swiftwick after nearly four years as the founder and managing partner of Bradhurst Ventures, a consultancy providing fractional COO/CMO services to consumer brands. Prior to Bradhurst, Chou served in multiple executive roles at Away, where he joined the luggage brand as the third employee and helped scale the company from launch to $150 million-plus in annual revenue in less than three years.

Roots Corporation

Global lifestyle brand Roots Corporation appointed Leslie Golts as its chief marketing officer. She brings over 15 years of marketing and communications leadership experience, having served as the general manager and head of marketing for Unilever Canada’s beauty and wellness unit as well as a marketing executive at Dove.

HanesBrands

HanesBrands has appointed Colin Browne, Natasha Chand and John Mehas as independent directors to the board, effective immediately.

Browne has over 40 years of industry experience across footwear, apparel and accessories, having most recently served as chief operating officer of Under Armour. Chand is a consumer business and technology executive with over 25 years of experience building brands globally, serving as the principal of the advisory services firm NoBo. Mehas is an experienced retail leader with over 30 years of building global brands, currently serving as CEO of Vineyard Vines.

Valley Companies

Valley Companies hired Jason Mansur as its new vice president of Enterprise Partnerships. With over 20 years of experience and executive leadership skills in third-party logistics, Mansur will work in tandem with president and CEO, Todd Gilbert, and the freight transportation and supply chain logistics solutions company’s leadership team, to develop new commercial solutions and partnerships.

Jeff Casale Board International

Intelligent business planning vendor Board International has announced Jeff Casale as its new CEO, effective Nov. 6. Casale is a seasoned technology industry executive uniquely qualified to lead the board’s next expansion and international growth phase.

Casale most recently served as CEO of MarkLogic, focusing on providing data management and data integration platforms. He led the company through a successful transformation, revising its strategy and delivering significant profitable growth, resulting in an acquisition by Progress Software.

Sustainable Apparel Coalition

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) CEO Amina Razvi will leave the nonprofit fashion industry alliance on Dec. 29. She will continue to work with the board and the global team to support the transition. During the transition, the SAC executive team will oversee day-to-day operations and key strategic initiatives. A dedicated Transition Taskforce will be overseen by Tamar Hoek, chair of the SAC board and senior policy director of sustainable fashion at Solidaridad.
