As the two-year anniversary of the Rana Plaza building collapse, which killed more than 1,100 workers and injured more still, draws near Bangladesh is continuing its efforts to improve the sector and restore its reputation.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with not-for-profit initiative FOR Bangladesh, a group of doctors, lawyers and entrepreneurs from Europe committed to helping improve conditions in the country. As partners, the organizations will provide treatment to garment workers injured in factory accidents.
A nine-member team from FOR Bangladesh is in the country this week treating and performing plastic surgeries free of charge for victims of the recent political violence.
No further details on when, how the treatment for RMG workers will be provided have yet been announced.
