Selecting a signature scent is something deeply personal, and once you’ve chosen one, it tends to stick for years to come. When your schedule or budget doesn’t allow for exploration, signature scents are just that: your go-to, tried and true option when all else fails. It should come as no surprise that actress Julianne Moore — who’s often busy shooting different projects — has had the same one for 25 years. What surprised us? It’s extremely affordable. Her scent, the Kiehl’s Musk Eau de Toilette, is currently on sale for just $36.
Initially debuted in 1962, but rumored to be developed in the 1920s as the “Love Oil”, Musk Eau de Toilette is a masterclass in juxtapositions. Often, musky scents are associated with the heavy and dramatic, but in this iteration, with aromas of Bergamot Nectar, Orange Blossom and Musk, it’s light and ideal for fragrance novices, or those who dare to dip their toe into layering scents. As a singular note, its soft toilette form makes it easy to pair with a cologne, or perfume. It’s also gender-neutral, perfect for a romantic gift for that special someone your life — or for establishing a signature layered scent equation. While the Original Musk underwent a new formulation in 2017 that’s left many customers divided, Moore has continued to stick by the fragrance.

Moore herself explained, “I’ve been wearing Kiehl’s Musk, the spray, for probably 25 years or something. Every time I try to change, I end up coming back to it. It just smells nice and clean. And it doesn’t feel big to me. I really like that.” If that’s not an endorsement for the staying power of Musk Eau de Toilette, we don’t know what is.
We expect this Valentine’s Day deal to not last long, and who knows? You may even be ordering the price drop alongside Moore herself, who we suspect will also be stocking up.
