Piero and Miriam Cividini were inspired by Milena Canonero’s costume designs for “Out of Africa” for their spring collection, which they described as both exotic and urban. The colonial influences were subtle, as in a cream jacket and midi skirt that were updated versions of what Karen Blixen might have worn in the Twenties.
Masculine-inflected tailoring borrowed from the military lexicon. The designers used a dégradé of beige tones to give a belted jacket a sand-blasted effect, while a dark camouflage pattern looked unexpectedly chic on a silk bathrobe and pajama pants.
Shirtdresses and duster coats in a panoply of nude tones were layered with the label’s signature polka dot and checked patterns. While the patterned leggings that underpinned most of the looks felt a little outdated, taken individually these understated designs should stand the test of time.
