A charming animated short film by artist Wu Junyong, titled “The Flying Ark” and loosely based on the story of Noah’s Ark, set the tone for Tadashi Shoji’s spring show as the designer looked to a vision of rebirth for inspiration. He showed plenty of beautiful embroidered dresses, as well as the sexy lace numbers that have become his signature.
Shoji played with an array of animal motifs, from fanciful ostrich-feather trims to leopard-print embroideries, on looks that included plunging-neckline gowns and flirty cocktail dresses — many in vibrant hues. He also showed a number of parachute skirts that floated voluminously as the models strutted down the runway. Worth noting, too: Six looks from Shoji’s show were buy-now-wear-now.
