Lan Yu’s spring offering for her Lanyu label aimed to celebrate the purity of the magnolia blossom. It was a mix of the hyper-feminine, inclusive of bridal options, and the masculine, with updates to traditional suiting. Floral appliqués were intricately applied onto both promlike dresses and evening gowns. Yu stuck to the theme quite literally, using floral lace, appliqué and embroidery generously, though it didn’t always read as elegant. Sheer paneling on bridal gowns surely didn’t help.
Her plays on men’s wear were more successful, including a little black dress with tuxedo buttons and a coatdress with bell sleeves that balanced soft and structured.
