Having been a banker, flamenco dancer, singer and spiritual book author, Karen Ruimy is adding a new career to her résumé: clothing designer.
The entrepreneur presented the debut resortwear line for her Kalmar label at Milan Fashion Week and announced that a matching scent and body product range is in the works. Their common denominator? A commitment to wellness and empowerment.
The clothing collection is made up of caftans, palazzo pants, camisole tops and peasant skirts in plain colors or prints including a graphic leaf motif inspired by the cutouts of Henri Matisse. The outfits, designed in collaboration with Marios Schwab, were paired with sculptural jewelry by Sian Evans.
Ruimy said she aimed to generate a “goddess vibe” with the line, which used light fabrics such as silk, crepe de chine or cotton in roomy fabrications. “I believe that the movement is very important for a woman. When the fabric follows your movement, it gives you a lot of grace and power. You feel good in your body,” she noted.
