Military frogging, fur trim, signature pleated lace, prom dresses, leather catsuits, cotton striped shirt-shorts combos — Ermanno Scervino had a lot going on and he sent it all down the runway without much rhyme or rhythm. There were a host of pretty pieces on his busy catwalk, such as a white shirtdress with billowy sleeves and tone-on-tone frogging at the front; gowns dotted with sculptural rosettes and a lineup of textured, Forties-style dresses with cap sleeves and flower or leaf prints. Other looks, though well-made, looked fussy or costume-y, including a cream coat with frogging picked out in matching fur; a halter-top prom dress the color of crème de menthe, and a white leather motorcycle ensemble — tight leggings and a shrunken jacket. Scervino needs to tone down the styling, simplify his runway offerings and allow the best pieces to shine — on and off the catwalk.
