A blustery summer’s day — picnic weather in Scotland — was the inspiration for Fran Stringer’s fresh and unfussy collection. In a nod to the brand’s native soil, it was packed with long sheer or ribbed knits, featherweight cashmere and breezy tartan dresses.
Stringer, Pringle’s women’s wear design director, has been looking for a while at the brand’s underwear heritage — it started life making those garments before it turned to cashmere twinsets and argyle golf sweaters — and the result was one very modern lineup.
There were long T-shirt dresses that looked as if they were made from cheesecloth; ankle-skimming ribbed knit skirts and matching tops, some with little buttons at the front, and lots of easy layers such as long and loose cashmere tanks, cardigans and skirts with asymmetrical hems — all meant to be layered.
She worked with ultra-lightweight wools, undyed cottons, raw silks and linens as well as silk viscose, the latter of which was used for long, breezy patchwork tartan dresses with high waists and handkerchief hemlines. Picnic wear for the Highlands.
