Yigal Azrouël pushed his collection in a romantically feminine direction for spring. Diaphanous, fluid silhouettes and floral motifs evolved throughout his neutral palette of black, white and pale blue to creative effect. He applied a delicate hand to a series of abstract floral-printed chiffon gowns, some of which had Chantilly lace panels, insets of sheer embroidered appliqués and high necklines that bore a slight Victorian feel. A few looks were infused with more modernist, architectural details — one silk twill dress coat with cape sleeves resembled a motorcycle jacket, and others had asymmetric zips and cut-out shoulders — staying true to the designer’s tough, downtown roots.
