Sally LaPointe became fascinated by the idea of being an introvert and an extrovert at once — and all of the gray area in between. “As women, we’re not totally black-and-white,” she said. “That’s our woman; you can’t quite nail her down.”
To that end, LaPointe’s strong spring outing proved a study in contrasts, featuring mixed materials and bold bursts of color against an otherwise subdued palette. Take, for example, the show’s opener: a creamy silk duster trench hanging languid and loose over black leather shorts and a transparent vinyl tank. Or the showstopping finale, which was a red trenchcoat with beaded sleeves over a silver sequined slipdress.
Elsewhere, a skirt was fashioned from half-pony hair, half-pleated transparent vinyl. The complexity and depth evident in each look, many accessorized with cowhide satchels, was not only impressive but thoughtfully sophisticated.
