Longtime Los Angeles residents Max and Lubov Azria have witnessed firsthand the recent influx of fashion-seekers to California. “We’re like, everyone is moving here, which is kind of cool,” said Lubov backstage before the BCBG show. She and her husband decided to seize the moment and celebrate California style for spring, zeroing in on Seventies skate and surf culture from a soft, feminine tomboy perspective.
The old “go with what you know” proverb rang true. The collection was one of the best BCBG outings in recent memory. It felt personal and current, a mix of board shorts, painterly floral dresses and great tie-dye and marled knits. The looks were layered — elongated racer-back knit tanks over printed dresses; embroidered bajas and shorts, and T-shirts under tank dresses — for a sporty, beachy boho vibe of California dreamy.
