Japanese women love to get dolled up for weddings and special occasions. Enter Tazuko Yamaki, who turned out a polished, feminine lineup of embellished dresses, lace jackets and frilly skirts. Highlights included well-cut circle skirts, flowing handkerchief hems and an ivory dress studded with gold leaves. While some looks — the belted lace trenches, for example — were chic, others felt dated, such as looks with hemlines resembling ruffled bed skirts. Fussy accessories such as gloves, dainty jewelry and Forties-style headpieces heightened the matronly vibe.
The styling also detracted from some of the pieces. The finale dress in gold lace could not be fully appreciated, as it was practically hidden under an embellished jacket tied at the waist.
